Leadbitter wins £23m leisure centre job

Leadbitter has won a £23 million contract to build a leisure centre for the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham.

The Beacontree Heath leisure centre, which is due to be completed by late spring 2011, will include a 10-lane, 25 sq m swimming pool, complete with a moveable floor, underwater lighting and facilities for 500 spectators.

The leisure centre will also include a sports hall, a martial arts studio, a fitness suite and a soft play area, together with rooms for community use, and dance studios.

The existing pool and leisure facilities will be demolished once the centre is complete.

Leadbitter is working with Saunders Architects and structural and civil engineers Andrew Waring Associates on the project.
