Mace / Jacobs picked for UK hub at Dubai Expo 2020

A Mace / Jacobs joint venture has been picked as the UK government’s delivery partner for the UK pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai.

The JV’s role as delivery partner will see the team manage the design, procurement and construction of the pavilion in the run-up to 2020.

The UK Pavilion will be the government’s base at the business summit, which will run for six months from 20 October 2020.

The event is expected to attract 25m visitors, with 70 per cent coming from outside of the UAE.

Last month the Department for International Trade launched the competition for architects to design the UK Pavilion, which will be based on the theme ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’.

Mace provided project management for the UK’s Thomas Heatherwick-designed Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo in 2010.

A Mace / Jacobs JV is also delivering design, construction and operations management for the construction of the wider expo site.

More than 200 participants, including countries, multilateral organisations, corporations and educational institutions, are expected to take part at the expo over the six months.

Department for International Trade UK commissioner general Laura Faulkner said:The legacy of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games continues to perpetuate with top UK companies such as Mace building on their world-class project delivery reputation to support the delivery of a priority UK project, UK at Expo 2020 Dubai.

“The UK presence in Dubai promises to be award-winning and world-class and we’re pleased to be working with Mace on this incredible project.”
