Russells Construction has started work to refurbish Federation House as part of the 8 ha Noma development in Manchester.
One of the original developments on the Co-op estate, the 70,000 sq ft building will provide nine storeys of office and ground floor retail and leisure at Dantzic Street.
Refurb work has already started on the early twentieth century structure. Russells has been employed to strip out internal fittings to create large open floorplates, with M&E services, lifts and bathrooms being installed.
The building is located between Victoria Station and the Northern Quarter on a pedestrian route between the two.
Noma is a joint venture between the Co-op and Hermes Investment Management.
Hong Kong-based developer Far East Consortium International was last week confirmed as a developer for sites (see pictures) for the Noma programme in central Manchester.

Now part of our city’s proud heritage, the building will once again meet the needs of a new generation of pioneers in digital, technology and creative business.
