Mansell scoops £16.2m job to build US Air Force housing

Mansell has won a £16.2 million housing job at RAF Feltwell in Norfolk for use by the United States Air Force.

Defence Estates awarded Balfour Beatty-owned Mansell the contract to build 66 military family housing units for US Air Force personnel and their families.

The homes will be a mix of eight housing types either semi-detached or detached, all with either three or four bedrooms.

Work will also include provision of new roads, parking areas, play areas and landscaping.

The homes will be built to Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes with features including solar hot water and a sustainable urban drainage system.

Mansell will use modular boiler systems and shower pods in the interests of quality, time and safety.

Construction is due to start in March 2010 with the expected finish date 78 weeks later in autumn 2011.

This latest award follows Mansell Construction Service’s long-standing presence on the Defence Estates/USAF framework under which the company has been responsible for the design and build of all five phases of  the £127 million Liberty Village development at RAF Lakenheath which will provide a total of 606 homes.
