Mansell to build £18m student digs

Mansell has won an £18 million contract to design and build 230 student flats in London.

The contractor will build the units across two blocks in Southwark for developer and manager Unite Group.

The first six-storey block will include 102 modular units, made up of studios and two and five bedroom homes, as well as 3,584 sq ft of commercial space at ground floor level. The second block will comprise 128 studios and one bedroom flats in a 13-storey tower.

Unite managing director of development Richard Simpson said: “We’re delighted to be working with Mansell on this scheme in the heart of London.

“Unite is set to open its doors to an additional 1,368 customers in September this year, and our 2010 pipeline will be dedicated on growing our leading position in the Capital.”

Construction will be completed by the end of August 2010.
