McLaren wins £23m mixed-use development in Aldershot

Citygrove has announced McLaren as the main contractor for the multi-million pound mixed use development Westgate in Aldershot town centre.

The £23m scheme is being delivered through a joint venture between Rushmoor Borough Council and its development partner, Citygrove Securities, as Westgate (Aldershot).

It will bring a multi-screen Cineworld cinema, eight restaurant units, a Travelodge hotel, a Morrisons and a new 500-space car park.

The project is 76-week building programme and will be built to BREEAM very good standard, transforming the nine-acre site into a leisure complex in the heart of Aldershot.

The development is being financed through a £51 million forward funding agreement with Legal and General Property. Ninety-five per cent of the 170,000 sq ft development is pre-let.

McLaren Construction is due to start work in mid-April. Managing director Phil Pringle said: “We are delighted to have this opportunity through Citygrove and are looking forward to getting started on this exciting new project to provide a new leisure and retail destination for the local residents. We look forward to working closely with Citygrove and the local community during the build of this project”.

Citygrove construction director Daemon Sheehan said: “It’s a pleasure to be working with McLaren Construction.  They have demonstrated a great understanding of the project and will enhance our team.  We look forward to delivering the scheme with them.”
