Metrix wins £29m defence deal

Metrix has scooped a £29 million contract from the Ministry of Defence to perform early works on the home of the future Defence Technical College.

The first stage of the project will focus on the relocation of the RAF 4School of Technical Training to a temporary location.

Later stages will include the demolition of existing 4SoTT buildings, site improvements and work with protected species that populate the site.

These preparatory works will allow the construction of the DTC to be begin as soon as financial close, scheduled for the end of 2010, has been achieved.

A Metrix spokesman said: “The EW contract provides Metrix with a year’s head start on an important body of site preparation activities, meaning that when the overall DTR Package 1 Project contract is signed, work can begin immediately on the full-scale construction of the DTC.”

Metrix has been appointed preferred bidder to manage, build and run the DTC in St Athan, South Wales.

It is led by technology services company QinetiQ, and facilities management specialist Sodexo.
