Northern Gas opens £480m framework for works around the North of England

Northern Gas has opened a £480m framework for gas maintenance and pipelaying works to be delivered across the North of England.

The Direct Service Provider Framework 2017 is divided into nine regional lots and suppliers can bid for more than one lot.

The framework will last for five months and will start in November.

Regional breakdown

  • Lot 1 is for North Tyne
  • Lot 2 is for Cumbria
  • Lot 3 is for Wear
  • Lot 4 is for Tees
  • Lot 5 is for North Riding
  • Lot 6 is for Bradford
  • Lot 7 is for Leeds
  • Lot 8 is for East Riding
  • Lot 9 is for the Pennines

Construction News revealed earlier this month that Skanska and Costain are battling it out for a National Grid contract to upgrade two of the client’s ageing gas compression stations.

It is understood the contract is worth around £90m and will be awarded in the coming months.

The winning contractor will replace the processing infrastructure at stations in Huntingdon and Peterborough stations.

The upgrades are part of a £26bn investment plan by National Grid to upgrade and develop its gas and electricity networks over the next five years.
