Sellafield tenders £1.5bn design and build contract

Sellafield is inviting contractors to bid for a contract, worth up to £1.5 billion, to design and build a Highly Active Liquid Effluent Facility.

The contract, worth between £250 million and £1.5 billion, is split into three phases. The first phase covers initial mobilisation and familiarisation while the second entails design and pre construction safety reports.

The third phase, which is subject to approval from the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and the Government, will see the contractor complete detailed designs and construction of the facility.

Sellafield anticipates that the contract will for five years run from 1 April 2010. Opening bids are due in by 9 September.
