Six in the running for £1bn New Covent Garden Market

Six developers have been shortlisted for the £1 billion redevelopment of the New Covent Garden Market in Nine Elms.

The shortlist includes Barratt developments & Kier, Berkeley Group, Bouygues UK, St Mowden, Stanhope and The Garden Development Partnership.

The winning developer will be announced by the Covent Garden Market Authority in mid 2011 and the planning application will be submitted to Wandsworth Council in late 2010.

Chairman of Covent Garden Market Authority Baroness Brenda Dean, said: “The calibre of our shortlist demonstrates the importance of the development opportunity we have here at The Garden.

“Crucially this project will be delivered with no call on Treasury funds – it will be entirely funded via our asset base and we are therefore delighted that in these testing times we have attracted this level of interest and look forward to working with these parties through the next stage of the process.”
