Third River Crossing contractor revealed

A Bam Farrans joint venture has been picked to design and build the £120m Great Yarmouth Third River Crossing.

Norfolk County Council has awarded the JV a contract to link the A47 at Harfrey’s Roundabout on the western side of the river with South Denes Road and the port and Enterprise Zone on the eastern side (see picture, below).

Bam Farrans will now work with the project team at the county council to finalise the detailed design and construction requirements for the bridge.

The contracting team has proposed a twin-leaf bascule bridge design with the counterweights below-deck.

The Department for Transport has pledged £98m towards the anticipated £120m cost of the crossing.

An application for development consent will be submitted in the spring once the design is finalised and a public examination will take place later this year.

The public consultation on the scheme closed in December and, if the scheme is approved, construction will start on site towards the end of 2020.
