Three shortlisted for £2bn Essex waste PFI

Three teams have been shortlisted from the seven bidders vying for the £2 billion waste PFI deal being procured by Essex County and Southend Borough Councils.

The remaining bidders are SkanskaCory, Spanish waste specialist Urbaser, and the Resources from Waste joint venture – made up of United Utilities, John Laing and Laing O’Rourke.

The deal, which will feature Mechanical Biological Treatment technology, will see more than 350,000 t of waste treated over 25 years.

A preferred bidder is expected to be named before the end 2011.
