The University of York has awarded a £17m deal to design and build a three-storey learning centre at its Campus East.
Interserve has won the contract to build the Piazza Learning Centre, for teaching facilities and learning spaces, as part of a £27m campus scheme.
It is the contractor’s second deal with the university.
Interserve will build facilities including two laboratories, a 350-seat auditorium, a 100-seat lecture theatre, a 300-seat restaurant and offices spread across 73,200 sq ft of space.
Work on site has begun, with the project due to complete in November 2017. Interserve hopes to achieve a BREEAM Very Good rating for the project.
