CN's week in motion: Mail Rail, Highways England and Robertson

This week’s project report, which graced our front cover as well, took place in London’s forgotten underground rail network, which is being converted into a themed ‘mail rail’ ride for the public; elsewhere, and following on from last week’s Autumn Statement, CPA senior economist Rebecca Larkin explored whether the government’s investment pledges will offset the impact of market uncertainty on the economy.

In our final roundtable of the year, with Robertson Group, we brought industry leaders together to discuss the cyclical nature of construction, low contractor margins, and the ever-present skills shortage. In the news: The big news this week saw Heathrow select seven for their expansion work; in an exclusive, Highways England are to replace Amey from two roads maintenance contracts worth £400m in the East of England.

And, finally, Construction News won the award for Digital Service of the Year at the International Building Press awards!
