WATCH: Balfour Beatty steps up on collapsed bridge

Source: Balfour Beatty

Balfour Beatty was called upon to reconnect the east and west side of Tadcaster following the partial collapse of a bridge over the River Wharfe on 29 December.

The firm has been busy, working 12-hour days, seven days a week, to ensure a 1.8 m-wide footbridge spanning 67 m across the river was erected as quickly and as safely as possible.

Balfour Beatty Regional contracts manager Dave Lowther said: “The remaining scope for us is to replace the bridge; it is a listed structure so we will have to replace it with stone arches, as it was before.

“It’s been an excellent response from the local people, for something that will help them go about their daily life as best as possible until the bridge is replaced.”
