Video: Can Birmingham and the Midlands Engine replicate Manchester and the Northern Powerhouse?

Construction News reporter Lucy Alderson takes a look at the growing influence of Birmingham and the emergence of the Midlands Engine.

Over the past two years, central government has accelerated its devolution agenda, with greater powers already handed over to major local authorities in the north of England, such as Manchester, Liverpool and Sheffield.

In 2015, the government said the Midland’s economy had the potential to grow by £34bn, and has since focused its efforts on developing the Midlands Engine to unlock the area’s growth capacity.

We take a look at the growing Midlands region, the pull of Birmingham, and what it could mean for contractors looking for work in the area.
