Wates has been appointed to build London developer Anthology’s Hoxton Press residential project, in a deal worth £71m.
The contractor is one of three firms that sit on Anthology’s contractor panel, along with Bouygues and Sisk.
Work includes the construction of two towers measuring 20 and 16 storeys high, and forms part of the wider regeneration that is taking place in the Hackney area.
Anthology was appointed by Hackney Council last July as developer partner for the third phase of the regeneration.
The second phase of the estate regeneration is being delivered by the council, for which Higgins Construction was appointed as the main contractor in June.
Anthology has plans to build 198 homes for private sale on the estate, which will help to cross-subsidise the affordable units across the estate.
Completion of the Hoxton Press is expected by summer 2018.
Anthology is backed by US private equity firm Oaktree and is currently developing schemes in Lewisham and Deptford.
It has plans to deliver up to 800 homes a year in London by 2020.
