Rail talks aim to prevent strikes

Talks aimed at averting strikes by railway signal workers which threaten travel chaos across the UK are to be held today.

Officials from the Rail Maritime and Transport Union will meet Network Rail to try to break a deadlocked pay dispute.

The union has announced that thousands of its members will stage two 24-hour strikes on June 20 and 25 which would hit workers trying to get home to watch England playing in the World Cup.
