Rail minister Derek Twigg made the announcement in a written statement to parliament last week.
'Following a fundamental review of its depot strategy, in the light of changes in the occupation and expected future use of existing depots, CLRL has concluded that it is possible for Crossrail to operate entirely from the existing rail depots at Old Oak Common in west London and Ilford in east London.'
CLRL said that the Old Oak site had been freed up by the decision to move Eurostar trains to Temple Mills in Leyton.
Moving its depot to the site will save £80M because less work needs to be done on track alignment.
An amendment to the Crossrail Bil reflecting the revised strategy along with revisions to the tunneling strategy already announced will be published in the Autumn.
