Schools get £1.2bn boost from government savings

The government has promised an additional £1.2 billion for investment in schools infrastructure.

Funding from savings made in current spending will meet the additional capital investment in schools, Chancellor George Osborne said today in this autumn statement.

Half of the funding is set to help local authorities with the greatest basic need for school places, while the other £600 million will go to support reform in the school system to provide 100 additional free schools, Mr Osborne said.
