Spring start for Bouygues on £22m Essex student PPP

Planning permission has been granted for £22m student accommodation project for the University of Essex, paving the way for Bouygues to start on site in Spring 2012.

The Uliving consortium – made up of Bouygues Development and Derwent Living – was selected for the £22 million Meadows student accomodation public private partnership last year.

Bouygues will act as design and build contractor and Derwent FM will provide facilities management.

The scheme is the first phase in the university’s major Knowledge Gateway site.

Designed by Lewis and Hickey it comprises 12-bed town houses, accommodating 228 students and a further 420 en-suite common room, a launderette and retail facilities.

The project also includes the refurbishment of some existing student accommodation known as the Quays.

Handover is scheduled for Q3 2013.
